Thai At Waugh Chapel: Reviews & Ratings
Walked past this place on a Saturday night. Ended up grabbing dinner here and we left very satisfied. We ordered Siam Chicken, Garlic Lovers with Shrimp and a side of fried rice. Everything was so flavorful! Maybe I was super hungry but I do wish the portion was slightly bigger for the Garlic Lovers with Shrimp. The atmosphere was great and our waitress was nice. Can’t wait to go back!
5-Star Review for Thai at Waugh Chapel in Gambrills, MD ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Thai at Waugh Chapel has been my go-to comfort spot since I first wandered into its cozy embrace back in 2013—back when I was 24, snapping a blurry phone pic of my first plate piled high with vibrant noodles, the steam fogging up my camera lens! Fast forward to October 2025, and this gem at 1406 S Main Chapel Way in Waugh Chapel Towne Centre still delivers that authentic southern Thai magic—spicy, fragrant, and bursting with Chumphon soul, thanks to owner Pornthipa Pattanamekar’s family recipes. Tucked in the heart of Gambrills with easy parking, it’s my happy place for a flavor-packed escape. On my latest fall evening visit, I went all-in on a feast of **Drunken Noodle**, **Pad Kapao Chicken** with rice, **Sticky Rice with Grilled Pork**, and the iconic **Mango Sticky Rice** for dessert. Every bite was a love letter to Thai cuisine—bold, balanced, and utterly unforgettable! We kicked things off with a classic appetizer to set the mood: **Thai spring rolls**, crispy and golden, stuffed with shrimp, glass noodles, and veggies, served with a tangy plum dipping sauce that had us fighting over the last roll—only $6 and dangerously addictive. Then straight to the mains, where the **Drunken Noodle** (Pad Kee Mao) stole the show: wide rice noodles stir-fried with tender beef, holy basil, bell peppers, and a fiery chili-garlic sauce that packed just the right punch—spicy, smoky, and savory with that perfect wok char, all for $14. It was the kind of dish that makes you forget the world for a minute. Next up, **Pad Kapao Chicken** with jasmine rice: minced chicken stir-fried with Thai basil, chilies, and a touch of fish sauce, served with fluffy rice to soak up that salty-spicy goodness—fragrant, bold, and deeply comforting for $13, especially with a fried egg on top that oozed golden perfection. The **Sticky Rice with Grilled Pork** was pure street-food nostalgia: chewy glutinous rice paired with juicy, marinated pork skewers grilled to smoky caramelized edges, served with a side of spicy nam jim jaew dipping sauce—$12 and so satisfying, it felt like a Bangkok roadside stall. Then came the dessert to seal the deal: **Mango Sticky Rice**, a masterpiece of warm, coconut-soaked glutinous rice topped with ripe, juicy Alphonso mango slices and a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds—sweet, creamy, and tropical, like a sunny Thai beach in every bite, all for $7. It was the perfect light-but-indulgent end to a spicy meal, leaving us blissful and not overly stuffed. The vibe at Thai at Waugh Chapel is as warm as ever—cozy with wooden accents, a lively hum from families and friends, and outdoor patio vibes for those crisp Maryland evenings. The staff are quick, friendly, and nailed our “medium-hot” spice request, even during a busy dinner rush. Paired my meal with a refreshing Thai iced tea—milky, sweet, with that pandan kick—for $4, and it tied everything together. Prices are a steal for the quality (mains $12-15), and the portions are generous enough for leftovers. Whether you’re in Gambrills for shopping or just craving a Thai escape, this spot is a must. Twelve years of visits, and it’s still love at first bite—highly recommend for spice lovers, solo diners, or anyone needing a flavor-packed getaway!
Food was great. Prices have definitely gone up, but where haven't they? I was happy with the serving size of my Pad Thai with Chicken. I would have ordered soda if they had what I like. (Note: They aren't listed on the menu, I couldn't really understand our server when I asked what they had.)
This is our go-to Thai spot. Our favorite appetizers are the calamari and Tom Ka soup. 3 of us tried the Chef Specials and were very happy! All the food has loads of flavor. I also always get the Thai iced tea.
The food was delicious and the ambiance of the restaurant is very nice. I had dinner here with five close friends. We had a reservation. Service was attentive and our dishes were very good. I would visit again. They had great Halloween decorations too.
My husband and I went to Thai at Waugh Chapel for date night and everything was perfect. We were seated promptly. Our waiter was nice and provided great service. Even though it’s Friday night, the place wasn’t crowded. The food was delicious! No complaints!
Food was tasty. Service was fast. Just what we wanted tonight.
I have lived in Thailand and speak Thai and can honestly state that this is some of the absolute most authentic Thai food I've ever experienced outside of the country. The atmosphere is perfect, the staff is wonderful and the food is amazing. I highly recommend!
